Miles Heizer’s Delayed Netflix Series Gets Title Change and Premiere Date

Liam Oh as Ray McAffey and Miles Heizer as Cameron Cope in Episode 102 of Boots.

Miles Heizer was cast as the lead actor in a Netflix dramedy about a closeted guy in the military, and production wrapped several years ago.

It seemed like the show was never seeing the light of day until today.

Netflix has revealed that the show, whose working title was The Corps, has been renamed to Boots and will premiere on October 9. You can check out more images from the show below.

Boots “is a one-hour comedic drama that delivers an irreverent, off-beat take on the coming-of-age story. Set in the tough, unpredictable world of the 1990s US Marine Corps—when being gay in the military was still illegal—the series follows directionless, closeted Cameron Cope (Heizer) and his best friend Ray McAffey (Liam Oh), the son of a decorated Marine, as they join a diverse group of recruits.

“Together, this ensemble navigates the literal and metaphorical landmines of boot camp, forging unlikely bonds and discovering their true selves in an environment designed to push them to their limits. With sharp wit and plenty of heart, Boots is about friendship, resilience, and finding your place in the world—even when that world seems determined to keep you in line or leave you behind.”

The series is based on Greg Cope White‘s book The Pink Marine and was created by Andy Parker.

Who Else Stars in ‘Boots?’

More cast members include Vera Farmiga as Barbara, Cameron’s mother.

Max Parker plays Sgt. Sullivan. He is the consummate elite Recon Marine, has been decorated for valor on numerous top-secret missions, but struggles to keep his own secret hidden. Haunted by his past, Sullivan sees himself in Cameron and tries to prepare him for the same personal war he’ll face beyond boot camp.

Oh’s Ray is Cameron’s ride or die and the son of a strict Marine father. Ray carries the pressure of having to be the best at all times, but when boot camp shakes his faith in himself, he is forced to reevaluate his life’s trajectory.

Other cast members include Cedrick Cooper, Ana Ayora, Angus O’Brien, Dominic Goodman, Kieron Moore, Nicholas Logan, Rico Paris, Blake Burt, Logan Gould, Zach Roerig, Johnathan Nieves, Brandon Tyler Moore, Ivan Hoey Jr., Anthony Marble, and Joy Osmanski.

Boots seems like the show we’ve been waiting for. Parker is known for creating impactful LGBT dramas, including the Tales of the City reboot. Based on the authentic casting alone, we’re intrigued. Whether the show is good remains to be seen.

We’ll find out when all eight episodes (no longer ten) will debut later this year on October 9.
