Ruaridh Mollica Joins Joe Locke in the MCU After Playing Lovers

This is what we call queer excellence! Sebastian star Ruaridh Mollica has been confirmed to star in VisionQuest as Tommy Maximoff.

Mollica was cast earlier this year playing a character called Tucker, likely a codename to hide his character in the upcoming Paul Bettany-led series.

This is similar to what happened with Joe Locke when he was cast as Billy Maximoff in Agatha All Along under the codename Teen.

Mollica and Locke will now star as siblings in the WandaVision spinoff that follows Vision after the events of the record-breaking 2021 series starring Elizabeth Olsen.

The revelation that Mollica will play Tommy was made in the 2025 NYCC, where some footage of the actor in character was shown.

VisionQuest continues the events of WandaVision and Agatha All Along. In the latter, Billy uncovered his own identity and set off to find his brother, finding his soul and transferring it to a new body.

“zoom zoom 💨@marvel,” Mollica posted on his Instagram account, celebrating the announcement.

“Omg twins!” Locke replied under Mollica’s post.

Here’s something quite interesting: the actors are playing lovers in a West End play titled Clarkston.

This is similar to Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who played lovers in Godzilla (2014) before playing Pietro and Wanda Maximoff in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

What are the chances!

The play’s description reads:

“On a journey West to rediscover himself, Jake (Locke) unexpectedly meets Chris (Mollica) – a kindred soul hiding in a night shift at a Costco in a rural American town. As their bond deepens, so does their sense of adventure. Maybe they could finally give life new meaning by chasing something more – like the intrepid explorers Lewis and Clark before them.”

Queering the MCU

Major cinematic universes have long been starved of queer representation.

And while it’s not confirmed what VisionQuest intends to do with Tommy as far as sexuality is concerned, seeing more queer stars on TV is a net positive for representation.

Mollica, who is bisexual, did not have the easiest time coming to terms with his sexuality.

“I didn’t have any queer role models growing up, especially bisexual role models,” he said in an interview with Wonderland.

Here’s to him being the role model he never had.

Locke has broken barriers with his roles on shows like Heartstopper and Agatha All Along, where he plays gay characters.

“Yeah, and there are days that I never want to play a gay character again,” he said in an interview with Variety. “Most of the casting I get sent are for gay characters.”

Locke is afraid of being pigeonholed into stereotypes, but acknowledged that the fear might be irrational.

VisionQuest does not have a premiere date yet.
